Making its debut for FIREX 2015 is the passive protection ‘Experts Clinic’, which will be situated within the Association for Specialist Fire Protection’s (ASFP) Passive Fire Protection Zone.
The inaugural feature will see industry professionals provide advice on ‘built-in’ fire protection to facilities managers, contractors, services installers, Responsible Persons and designers.
Offering hands-on demonstrations of how to install products correctly, with the right materials, to achieve maximum performance, the Passive Protection Zone and surrounding ASFP member stands will showcase best practice and the essential role played by passive fire protection within today’s built environment.
The ASFP will offer visitors a wealth of essential documentation, publications and videos, including the second edition of its Best Practice Guide in Passive Fire Protection.
The Guide to Ensuring Best Practice for Passive Fire Protection in Buildings contains essential guidance relating to the installation, specification, commissioning and purchasing of passive fire protection.
This new document offers advice in a fresh, easy-to-read format, with recommendations clearly highlighted within the text and summarised at the end of each section.
The Association will also promote its new passive fire protection awareness training programme, which is designed to up-skill the supply chain involved in the installation of passive fire protection and improve the knowledge base of those involved in the design, supply, inspection and maintenance of passive fire protection.
Innovation Trail
The event also marks the return for a second year of the Innovation Trail. Spotlighting products that genuinely warrant the term ‘innovative’ – whether solving an old problem in a novel, more cost-effective way or addressing a hitherto intractable challenge – the Innovation Trail was judged a panel of independent experts.
Featured on the trail are:
The Agrippa Pillow Alarm by Geofire – unveiled for the first time at FIREX (see picture below)
The Stove Guard by Innohome, which addresses one of the biggest causes of fire in the home: cooking
Protectowire’s CTITM Linear Heat Detection System
The Talentum Flame detector, developed by FFE to protect a pilot attempting to break the land-speed record in South Africa next year
Fire Suppression Systems by Firetec® Reacton®
Freedor by Fireco Ltd
Mineral Insulated Copper Cables by Wrexham Mineral Cables
Though changing technology and business practices necessitate that trade shows must evolve, the motivations for attending remain broadly the same: networking with fellow professionals and prospective customers or suppliers, learning how to get an edge in your trade from live presentations and live product demonstrations.
However, the experience should be more than simply a hard-headed, utilitarian exercise. We decided to add some glamour to the occasion – and no little inspiration – by inviting three of the most inspirational figures on the speaking circuit.
They might arrive at the Protection & Management Series – the umbrella event that co-locates IFSEC and FIREX with the Safety and Health Expo, Facilities Show, Service Management Expo and Interop – with little direct experience of the fire or security industries, but our three renowned keynotes bring some fascinating stories and insights from other pursuits that nevertheless may provide no little inspiration as well as entertainment.
There’s a certain irony, for example, in Sir Ranulph Fiennes – an ex-smoker who endured a heart bypass and an intrepid eprid exporer lost fingers through frostbite on his madcap exploits – speaking about Extreme Health and Safety’ for our sister event, Safety and Health Expo. It should be fascinating!
Sire Ranulph Fiennes will be speaking at IFSEC International on 17th June 2015
