Axis Communications to market Canon’s network camera portfolio in EMEA and North America

Canon Inc and subsidiary Axis Communications AB have announced a major restructuring of their sales and marketing teams.

The shake-up will see Axis assume responsibility for marketing Canon’s entire portfolio of network video solutions in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) from today (1 September) and in North America from 1 October.

Canon Marketing Japan will continue to sell Canon’s network video product portfolio in the Japanese market, but will leverage Axis sales network and client assets to expand sales of Axis products to customers in Japan.

Canon Europe and Canon USA, meanwhile, will become sole providers of Canon network video products to Axis throughout the EMEA and North American markets. Canon has yet to confirm plans for the rest of the Asia-Pacific region.

Under the new framework, Canon partners and customers will benefit from Axis’s marketing, sales and technical expertise and will have access to a wider range of products and solutions from the leading company in the network video camera market.

The restructuring will allow the two companies to benefit from pooling resources.

An iconic, venerable brand in the consumer camera market, Canon is actually a comparatively recent entrant to the crowded network camera arena. But in the last two years the Japanese imaging giant has made a serious statement of intent by acquiring two of the biggest brands in the video surveillance market: Milestone in June 2014 and Axis in April 2015.

The pedigree of the Axis brand – it launched the world’s first IP network camera in 1996 and remains the world’s second biggest surveillance brand by global sales – is seen by Canon as the ideal vehicle to promote its latest network cameras, such as the eight 2MP network cameras unveiled at IFSEC 2016.

One model in the range – the VB-M50B 1.3MP Day/Night PoE PTZ Network Camera – was pitched to IFSEC Global readers in a 45-second product pitch by Canon Europe’s EMEA marketing director.

In another video – below – we had an installer grill him on his claims that the camera was groundbreaking in how it captures low-light colour without IR.
