CertAlarm Announces Partnership with ALTER TECHNOLOGY TÜV NORD

CertAlarm, which has devised a pan-European quality mark for fire protection and security systems, has teamed up with ALTER TECHNOLOGY TÜV NORD (ATN) to widen its pool of test laboratories and certification bodies.

The Madrid-based ATN, which offers services in the security, safety, aerospace and nuclear industries,  is a contracted certification body and recognised test laboratory.

The long term partnership allows ATN to provide European-wide recognised certifications and access new markets in the fire and security sectors.

Manufacturers selling across borders in this regulation-riven sector are currently hamstrung by a patchwork of competing standards against which their products must be developed, tested and certified – even within the so-called ‘single market’ of the EU.

No harmonised EU-wide certification procedures and standards for security products exist. Instead they are governed by EN-standards plus a variety of country-specific requirements, forcing manufacturers to get products re-tested and re-certified by local test and certification bodies – an expensive and protracted process – to get compliance in each new market.

CertAlarm offers customers the boon of getting their products tested and certified once for EU-wide compliance. Once a product has successfully passed all tests, manufacturers receive a CertAlarm certificate, freeing the manufacturer to sell the product throughout Europe.

“The fact that certification standards and procedures are not harmonised within Europe has in the past made it hard for us to understand the differing local situations and to offer the respective services in other countries”, says Luis Gómez, CEO of ALTER TECHNOLOGY TÜV NORD. “We therefore strongly support the concept of a single, independent testing scheme recognised throughout Europe as offered by CertAlarm.”

Says CertAlarm general manager Anja Kinsky: “We are more than pleased to welcome ATN as our new partner.

“With its wide spectrum of testing and certification services, more than 25 years’ experience in the space sector and integration in the renowned TÜV NORD GROUP we feel that ATN will contribute considerably to the know-how and expertise of our partners network.”
