FIA Webinar: CEO Ian Moore to Discuss Latest Market Conditions Review

Orders, enquiries and job creation in the fire protection sector have all improved over the past six months, according to the latest Market Conditions Review from the Fire Industry Association (FIA).

At 9am on Friday 29 April, FIA CEO Ian Moore will discuss the results of the report during a free webinar. Ian will answer questions like: is the industry growing? Where is this growth coming from? How is the export market affecting this and does the market have enough skills to meet the industry’s complex requirements? Topics will also include apprentices, the tender process and regional growth.

Released every six months the Review canvasses both FIA members and non-members companies across the UK on their performance.

Three in five (60%) respondents reported a slight increase in orders when compared with the preceding six months, while there has been a 5% increase in the number of customer enquiries received across the industry.

Two in five (40%) of the companies who completed the survey have recruited skilled labour in the last six months, which was far from offset by the mere 5% to have lost skilled labour instead over that period.

The report also had positive news for youth employment, revealing a small rise in apprenticeships started in the sector.

“Looking at the survey as a whole, and seeing so many factors remain the same as six months ago, indicates a clear period of stability,” says FIA CEO Ian Moore. “Given the erratic economy over the last few years, maybe this is what we have needed so companies finally feel there is not another cliff-fall around the corner.

“That being said, it is hard to ignore the much debated Brexit situation which will affect all (not just the companies that export). Whichever way it goes, there will be changes and let us hope they are mostly positive.”
