Fike’s Inert Gas Suppression System Gets Even Better

Inert gas suppression systems are a safe natural way to extinguish fires, and Fike’s ProInert system is the market leader.

Inert gas suppression systems are designed to reduce the oxygen concentration inside the protected space until it reaches a level where combustion is no long supported. Inert gas fire suppression systems are the safe, natural way to extinguish a fire without causing damage to electrical systems in a room — making it ideal for use in areas such as datacenters — or other high-value materials, such as those in a museum or gallery.

At the heart of the system is Fike’s pressure-regulated valve assembly. Fike’s unique patented valve automatically reduces the pressure of the extinguishant at discharge from 2-300 bar in the cylinder, to just 42 bar in the piping and all the way to the nozzle.

This means cost-savings to the business, because fewer gas cylinders are needed to protect the same space, when compared to other inert gas suppression systems. You can also store the cylinders further away, and because of the lower pressures, you require smaller bore and lower-grade pipework and fittings.

In addition, fewer nozzles are needed, and less venting areas, meaning an overall reduction in the cost of installation when compared to rival inert gas suppression systems, in some cases a reduction of up 60 percent.

The unique valve also means that ProInert delivers the gas at a steady constant flow rate, which eliminates the potentially hazardous pressure peaks associated with most inert gas system discharges.

With ProInert2 Fike has introduced a range of new benefits, key among which are:

  • Universal valve operator;
  • Expanded choice of inert gases;
  • Expanded range of discharge nozzles.

The new universal valve operator allows up to 100 cylinders to be fired at the same time upon actuation — the only inert gas suppression system that is able to do this.

You can also now choose from up to four different suppression gases for the system, to comply with different international standards — IG-55, the traditional ProInert gas; IG-01, Argon; IG-100, Nitrogen; and IG-541, a blend of Argon, Nitrogen, and CO2.

Fike has also expanded its range of discharge nozzles, to offer new sizes in both 360 and 180-degree options, offering customers increased flexibility in their designs and installations.

ProInert2 has both European and US certification approval, and is available in either UL/FM or LPCB versions.
