Fire Industry Association Reveals Achievements at 2015 AGM

The Fire Industry Association (FIA) promised to once again earmark significant funds for research at the organisation’s AGM.

This year the association set aside £92,000 for research, with a ground-breaking study into the causes of false alarms still ongoing.

It was also revealed that 6.6 million people have been reached via social media and articles published on the FIA’s website, which was recently revamped.

The association announced that 3,867 people have been trained in 299 courses in the last year.

Taking place at the Brewery in London on 11 November the AGM was followed by the annual FIA lunch, where the association’s former CEO Graham Ellicott was presented with a lifetime achievement award and ex-British Olympian Kriss Akabusi delivered an entertaining talk.

The FIA welcomed 71 new members over the past 12 months, taking the total membership to 656. Although this represented a slight dip on 12 months ago, it simply reflects how high the FIA sets the bar in terms of granting membership, FIA chair Martin Harvey told the audience.

“I want the FIA to be the voice of the fire industry,” said Ian Moore, who replaced Ellicott in August. “The FIA is well respected and very influential in many spheres of engagement to ensure members’ needs are supported and we can raise the bar in our industry.

“Our strapline of ‘for professionals, by professionals’ really rings true to me. With our brand new website being the portal to information for our members (and much to non-members as well), we are well placed to achieve this.”
