Fire-Safety App to Raise Awareness and Test Knowledge Levels of Landlords and Tenants

firemark app screenshot 1Firemark Education has launched an interactive fire-safety app aimed at landlords and tenants.

Developed by G2G3 the Firemark Education app will make it easier for landlords and tenants to understand risk from fire, risk mitigation options, fire detection and fire alarms.

Firemark Education, which was launched in December 2013 to educate landlords and tenants on fire protection legislation and their responsibilities, is partnering with the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) to promote the tool.

The app has been a year in the making, with G2G3, Capita’s technology consultancy, in charge of development. Landlords or tenants using the app will complete a basic risk assessment, identifying hazards and the remedial action required in a number of realistic scenarios.

As well as raising awareness the fire and rescue services will hope to learn about present knowledge levels in the private rented sector.

The application was launched at the House of Commons on Tuesday 27 October at an event hosted by Ian Liddell-Grainger, MP for Bridgwater and West Somerset.

Sir Ken Knight, who is technical and professional adviser to Firemark Education, said: “This new application will help to transform fire safety for landlords and tenants.

“Working with G2G3, we’ve designed a tool for fire services all over the country to add to their education programmes and ensure that key fire safety messaging is shared with the whole private rented sector.”

Said Councillor Mark Healey, chair of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service: “The launch of this app marks months of hard work for Firemark Education and G2G3 – and we’re thrilled at the result. Fire safety training is vital – and this will ensure that landlords and tenants have the knowledge they need to reduce risks and keep themselves safe.”
