An Innovative Solution for CCTV Solar Power Issues: Benchmark Innovation Awards @ IFSEC 2015

netwaveComnet presented their innovative NetWave Solar Power Kit – which aims to solve the main issues surrounding solar power usage – at IFSEC International 2015 on 18 June.

Competing against four other contenders in the infrastructure category – and you can see all 44 nominees here – in the Benchmark Magazine Innovation Awards the NetWave Solar Power Kit was showcased in the Benchmark Innovation Arena to assorted delegates.

The problem

Comnet’s business and development manager, Iain Denchars, explained the main problem that occurs with the use of solar panels for CCTV camera systems, namely that a security camera system requires constant power 24/7 – naturally a major issue where the power source is a solar panel.

In addition to the power problem, Comet has identified another snag: the connection device between the energy source and the cameras installed for the security system.

The NetWave package solar kit aims to solve both problems, also simplifying installation compliance.

In details, every kit includes:

  1. High quality photovoltaic solar panel,
  2. Valve-regulated lead-acid battery,
  3. Outdoor enclosure,
  4. Solar charge controller,
  5. PoE midspan injector
  6. Mounting hardware

Providing all the tools necessary, the NetWave solar power kit simplified the selection process basing the choice on the constant output amount of energy required (15w or 30w) and the peak sun hours (>3 hours or >6 hours), which lack can be compensated by the use of the storage battery which provides 40 hours of reserve.

Wireless NW7E connection

Regarding the Interconnection cable to the IP system, the NetWave package includes the new Ethernet Wireless solution, which earned the company the 2014 Innovation Award promoted by Benchmark magazine.

The point-to-multipoint unit allows connection to multiple Ethernet endpoints to a central Access Point in the solar package, providing remote power from the panel to an edge communications device –  the security camera system.
