To tackle the growing menace of metal and cable theft on the London Underground Honeywell Security and Castel have supplied an IP-based intercom solution.
The move is part of the London Underground’s decision to overhaul security at its maintenance depots.
The previous intercom system suffered from integrating numerous, ageing technologies for which maintenance was proving expensive. As a result Transport for London gave its nod for the procurement of a new IP intercom system as well as surveillance and access control system from Honeywell.
A comprehensive network of total 35 CAP IP PoE (Power over Ethernet) Video Entry Stations from Castel has been installed across the site including gates, vehicle barriers and turnstiles.
One of the key benefits of this IP/SIP network solution is that it directs all calls to a central security control room which ensures that no calls should be left unanswered as it is highly critical to have uninterrupted access to sites.
There is also scope for scalability in Castel’s Xellip Server Max whenever the need arises in future. The solution was used in the London Underground project as well and extends the functionality by adding as many as 1,000 SIP extensions.
