Making sure the facts are right… 1 October 2005

The BSIA has been supporting members and their customers in the run-up to the introduction of these standards, and a wide variety of guidance information is available on our Internet site (www.bsia.co.uk).

Indeed, the latest addition to that information is a ‘Factsheet on European Standards for Intruder Alarms’, which is perfectly suited to end users.

“It is absolutely essential that end users and their insurers are fully aware of these new standards and the changes they will bring,” comments the BSIA’s technical director Alex Carmichael. “The factsheet we have produced outlines what the European Standards represent and why they are needed, while also covering in great depth the changes in installation practices that end users must be aware of from this moment on.”

Carmichael continued: “The key change for UK end users is that they must determine in conjunction with their insurer – and prior to intruder alarm installation – exactly what grade of system the insurer requires for their premises. Reaching agreement on this at an early stage in the specification process will set the scene for a trouble-free installation process.”
