Passive Fire Protection at FIREX: Hands-on Demos with Exova Warringtonfire

exova passive fire firexExova Warringtonfire will hold interactive demos with a range of passive fire protection equipment and materials at this year’s FIREX International.

Technical experts from the group, which tests fire-safety products under laboratory conditions to determine third-party compliance, will offer guided tours of the 80m² Passive Fire Protection Zone (stand C175) at FIREX 2016, including a full-scale corridor and suspended ceiling simulation.

Physical demonstrations of best practice specification and installation of fire doors, service pipes, cables, light switches and downlighters will also take place.

Interactive exhibits will include a full-size burnt fire door, glass and structural steel. Time-lapse video demonstrations will show the impact of effective – and ineffective – passive fire protection on the spread of fire and egress of smoke.

Experts from Exova BM TRADA – which acquired Warrington Certification last year – will be on hand to explain the role that third-party certification plays in helping responsible persons choose passive fire protection products perform as intended.

Visitors to the Passive Fire Protection Demonstration Zone can also find out about the Certifire, FIRAS, FRACS and Q-Mark third party certification schemes for fire door manufacture, installation, inspection and maintenance, as well as equivalent schemes for the installation of fire-stopping elements and fire risk assessors.

Mark Cummings, commercial head of Exova Warringtonfire’s fire testing team, will demonstrate the gulf in performance between correctly and incorrectly specified and installed fire doors, glazing and fire stopping for pipe and cable penetrations on Tuesday 21 June at 15.10 and again on Wednesday 22 June at 12.40. Cummings brings more than 15 years’ experience of fire testing products and representing Exova Warringtonfire on technical committees and trade associations to the Passive Fire Protection Zone.

Over in the Expertise & Guidance Theatre, Ross Newman, principal technical officer at Exova Warringtonfire, will form part of a panel reflecting on the impact of the RRO a decade after it came into force and whether the legislation is still fit for purpose. Kicking off proceedings on day one of FIREX, ‘10 years on from the Fire Safety Order’ will also star Colin Todd of CS Todd Associates and Nicholas Coombe from the London Fire Brigade. It will take place on 21 June, 10.45-11.30am.
