Security and Fire Firms Urged to Seize Chance to Influence Trailblazer Apprenticeship Assessment Plan

The public consultation on the draft assessment plan for the Trailblazer apprenticeship for fire, emergency and security systems technician is now underway.

Developed by the Trailblazer Employer Group, which comprises an array of employers from across the industry, the assessment plan outlines how technician apprentices will be assessed throughout their training in fire, emergency and security systems. This will cover an end-point assessment to be undertaken at the end of the apprenticeship and set a standard for competence.

“This is an opportunity for employers from our sector to provide input on how they want their apprentices to be assessed, and it’s crucial that they make the most of this chance to do it,” said Pat Allen, director of Abel Alarm, the lead employer on the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Trailblazer Employer Group.

“I urge any employer to take this opportunity to view and comment on the proposals so we can gather as much feedback as possible before they are submitted, and develop a clear and cohesive industry perspective on how we want our apprentices to be assessed.”

The Government’s ‘Trailblazer’ programme was set up to formulate employer-designed apprenticeship standards and assessments to ensure training and assessment meets the needs of employers and businesses as well as the apprentices themselves. The Fire, Emergency and Security Systems apprenticeship was was approved by the Department of Busness Innovation and Skills in August and will be introduced in 2016.

The consultation closes on 11 December. To get your voice heard complete this simple form.
