Sony Claims its First 4K CCTV Camera Defies Resolution/Low-Light Performance Trade-Off

sony snc vm772r 2Product in a nutshell: Sony’s first 4K camera combines 4K resolution – four times the resolution of Full HD (1080p) – with low-light sensitivity thanks to its 1.0 type back Illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor. The SNC-VM772R, which will be showcased for the first time at IFSEC International 2015 in June , also boasts bandwidth optimisation features and intelligent scene capture capability.

Sectors/verticals: Sony is targeting city surveillance, transportation, railway, traffic monitoring and airport surveillance markets.

Image quality/functions:

  • 4K resolution allows capture, magnification and examination of a scene’s smallest parts of a scene
  • 90dB wide dynamic range and 30fps offers clearer, sharper images, says Sony
  • 9-times motorised zoom lens and image sensor together maximise video resolution
  • Lens features optical image stabilisation and helps capture images with low distortion
  • sony snc vm772rEvidence Shot displays critical moments in 20MP –4 times more pixel resolution even than 4K – in still shot mode. Alarms can be sent with Video Motion Detection for specified scenes
  • Intelligent Cropping has two patterns for selecting the size and number of areas, employing two modes: Static, to view multiple fixed areas in one scene; and Dynamic, to detect moving objects
  • Intelligent Scene Capture function automatically adjusts and adapts picture quality (brightness and color) depending on time, weather and lighting conditions. Customisable picture parameter presets for best settings between day/night and multiple picture configurations can be saved and switched either manually (using Picture Profile mode) or according to schedule (Picture Profile Scheduler)

intelligent croppingevidence shotLow-light performance:

  • 0 type back Illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor enhances low-light sensitivity – traditionally sacrificed through rising image resolution
  • Back-lit structure doubles light sensitivity
  • Built-in infrared (IR) light source enhances performance in low-light conditions and nighttime shooting, enabling visibility at longer distances

Storage:

  • Unique bandwidth optimisation technologies allow customisation of streaming settings and operation
  • Intelligent Coding feature reduces storage and bandwidth consumption by adapting compression depending on area of interest
  • Intelligent Cropping and Multi-Tracking allows selection of up to four ‘regions of interest’ so users can select only the portion of an image they want to see in 4K resolution, while streaming a scaled full HD image. This slashes bandwidth consumption by 50% , making wide area monitoring more effective and targeted

Integration: Supported by major VMS providers including AxxonSoft, Exacq Technologies, Genetec, Genius Vision Digital, Lenel Systems International, Milestone Systems, NICE Systems, NUUO, On-Net Surveillance Systems, SeeTec AG and Verint Systems

intelligent codingManufacturer says: “4K is the new standard in video security, but 4K imaging is about more than just increased resolution,” says Aydin Tolan, Business Head, Visual Security Solutions, Sony Professional Solutions MEA.

“We believe 4K is the next resolution standard in the security industry and is key to expanding the application potential  of security cameras. The increased resolution covers a larger area in greater detail, improving situational awareness and ensuring nothing is missed.

“These benefits help security professionals reduce installation and operating costs as fewer cameras are needed for specific areas.”

Launch date: The SNC-VM772R is due to be available from the third quarter of 2015
