Whitepaper: Enhancing security, resilience and efficiency across a range of industries

A map of the UK by numbers of CCTV cameras

Below is a map of the UK by numbers of CCTV cameras.

Put together by online retailer We Sell Electrical the infographic ranks the country’s biggest cities by video surveillance cameras, while London is broken down into boroughs. One borough in particular is so saturated with network cameras it eclipses the UK city other than London that tops the charts.

Released to coincide with the second series of Channel Four’s Hunted the infographic purports to show ‘the UK’s best hiding places’ for a fugitive on the run.

Really low underestimate. The average petrol station has 11 CCTV cameras. Yet Brighton only has 84? I have worked in warehouses with more cameras. Our local busses have 1 to 4 cameras onboard. And we have around 200 busses. Our little Tesco local has 9 cameras. Who knows how many the larger supermarkets have. It has been estimated that there are between 4m and 6m CCTV cameras in the UK.
