AXIS T61 Series adds audio and I/O functionality to existing Axis cameras

Axis Communications has launched the AXIS T61 Audio and I/O Interface Series, which brings audio and I/O connectivity to installed Axis network cameras.

Saving users from replacing cameras altogether, it offers a more cost-effective route to getting the benefits of audio and I/O and wringing more value out of existing cameras.

AXIS T61 Series units, which sit between the camera and switch, use portcast, which transfers audio and I/O digitally over the network cable, between the camera and interface.

With the camera separate from the audio and I/O interface, customers have the flexibility to capture audio close to a point of interest, while positioning the camera in a more distant, discrete position.

With two-way audio, customers can communicate warnings to intruders as well as enhancing the quality of captured audio. The AXIS T61 Series will support audio analytics functions like aggression detection.

AXIS T61 Series features

  • Adding audio and I/O support to Axis cameras without this functionality built-in
  • No need for additional IP address or VMS license thanks to portcast technology
  • Power over Ethernet for AXIS T61 interface as well as camera
  • External sensors and detectors can be connected to input ports to trigger alarms or actions
  • Alarm can also be sent if connections are cut
  • External devices such as relays can be connected to output ports to activate lights, lock/unlock doors, etc.

Features specific to AXIS T6101

  • I/O ports: two configurable supervised inputs or digital outputs
  • Audio line in and out, 3.5 mm connectors

Features specific to AXIS T6112

  • I/O ports: two configurable supervised inputs or digital outputs
  • Built-in microphone
  • Audio out, 3.5 mm connector
  • Discreet casing ready to be mounted on wall or ceiling

Axis Communications says

“Audio and I/O capabilities bring significant value to a video surveillance system, and adding this through AXIS T61 Series gives ultimate flexibility,” said Jerom Lemke, Global Product Manager at Axis Communications.

“Our unique feature, portcast, delivers audio and I/O benefits in an elegant, simple and cost-effective way, and we expect to see it available across a growing range of Axis cameras over the coming months, in addition to those already compatible.”

“AXIS T61 Series allows audio and I/O to be added only to those cameras where it is needed, without requiring additional IP addresses or video management software (VMS) licences, while video and audio are delivered through a single stream.

“Installation is straightforward and integration with an existing VMS is seamless. Customers only need to make sure that a camera’s firmware supports portcast, and then the camera will act as if audio and I/O were built-in.

Availability

AXIS T61 Audio and I/O Interface Series will be available in Q2 through Axis distribution channels.
