Dubai fire lab adds BS 8414 cladding tests to its UKAS accreditations

A Dubai-based, UKAS-accredited fire testing lab has added BS 8414 tests for building cladding to its accreditations.

Thomas Bell-Wright International Consultants has one rig each for Parts 1 & 2, with a third under construction to meet anticipated demand.

It’s ‘Reaction-to-Fire’ lab – also UKAS-accredited – provides a complete range of EN 13501-1 tests for materials.  Fire tests on offer include the ASTM E84 (Flame Spread and Smoke Developed Index in the Steiner Tunnel), ASTM D1929 (Ignition temperature of plastics), NFPA 268 (Ignitability of Exterior Wall Assemblies Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source) and NFPA 285 (Fire Propagation of Exterior Non-Load-Bearing Walls), accredited by IAS.

Later this year the lab will offer UKAS-accredited testing in its new vertical and horizontal furnaces. Measuring four metres by five metres and both load-bearing, the furnaces joins the existing three metre by three metre furnace in the Resistance-to-Fire lab.

Thomas Bell-Wright International Consultants has done more than 150 tests of exterior cladding according to NFPA 285 over the past two years. The body provides test reports in under a fortnight.
