Natasha Kaplinsky Presents CFOA Programme that Raises Fire Safety Awareness

firefighterThe Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) has developed a current affairs programme with ITN Productions with the goal of raising awareness about fire safety and the evolving role of the fire service.

Called ‘Beyond Blue Lights’ the programme features interviews with prominent fire safety professionals and campaigners, news reports on key industry issues and sponsored editorial profiles of leading organisations in the sector.

The programme, which is presented by Natasha Kaplinsky, also examines how new preventive partnerships – such as that forged between the Fire and Rescue Services, NHS and charities including Age UK – can help the most vulnerable in our society.

From breathing apparatus and thermal imaging cameras to protective clothing and control room systems the latest innovations in fire safety are also featured.

The programme was screened for the first time at CFOA’s AGM on 14 September. Fire Minister Mark Francois spoke at the event, which explored the fire service’s expanding and changing role.

“CFOA’s partnership with ITN Productions has been extremely fruitful, as this fantastic programme shows,” says Paul Hancock, CFOA’s newly elected President.

“It does a great job of exploring the wide role of the fire and rescue service, from world class emergency response and national resilience to innovative collaboration and prevention activity.

“I hope it will serve to show just what a difference the fire and rescue service – and the people that work for it – can make.”

Said Simon Shelley, Head of Industry News, ITN Productions: “ITN Productions has enjoyed its partnership with the Chief Fire Officers Association as a means of examining the evolving role and relevance of the fire service.

“We wanted to bring to life the incredible innovations that are saving lives, but also focus on the people throughout the service who are striving to work collaboratively to prevent tragic incidents. By bringing this all to screen we hope to spark new dialogue that could shape that future of the service.”
