58-year-old David Paterson is the managing director of Interserve’s Project Services division. He joined the company back in 1994, and became managing director of the Infrastructure business unit in 1997.
In 2005, Paterson was appointed managing director of Project Services’ UK operations before taking on responsibility for the whole division last year.
Paterson is a director of Interserve Investments and sits on the CBI’s Construction Council.
A Chartered civil engineer, Paterson formerly worked in senior management positions for Burse and Costain prior to joining Tilbury Douglas.
Dougie Sutherland is managing director of Interserve’s Developments division. He joined Interserve from 3i in September 2006 as managing director of Interserve Investments, in turn directing the Group’s PFI activities.
Interserve Investments leads the bid process and manages the company’s PFI equity investments, playing a key role in securing longer term investments for the rest of the Group.
Experience of both the public and private sectors
Before joining Interserve, Sutherland spent a decade working in the infrastructure investment arena and across both public and private sectors.
Sutherland kick-started his career by spending seven years with the Royal Engineers. Between 1995 and 1999, he worked for HM Treasury, leading on deals on behalf of the Government. These included the redevelopment of HM Treasury, GCHQ and National Savings sites.
From 1999 through until 2004, Sutherland served as managing director of Amey Ventures, where he was directly responsible for a wide-ranging portfolio of bids and investments in the MoD, school and transport sectors.
He then moved on to Lend Lease and a stint as managing director of its PFI schools and hospitals business.
This year, 45-year-old Sutherland’s role expanded to encompass the Group’s strategic developments.
Speaking about the Board appointments, Lord Norman Blackwell – Interserve’s chairman – told SMT Online: “I welcome David and Dougie to the Board. They have provided valuable leadership both to their businesses and to the Group as a whole, and their appointment to the Board will enable Interserve to benefit further from their experience.”
From 1 January 2011, the Board of Interserve plc will comprise six executive and six non-executive directors (including the chairman).
