Corps Security takes leading role in counter-terrorism debate

Mike Bluestone, Corps Security’s principal consultant and current chairman of The Security Institute, recently delivered a speech at the Foretags Universiteit in Sweden in which he outlined emerging trends and developments in the corporate security sector.

Crucially, Bluestone included comments about the importance of ‘security risk convergence’ in terrorism prevention.

Convergence is a process which brings all those dedicated to security – whether physical or information security – together for the benefit of the organisation.

“The traditional ‘silo’ or ‘not in my back yard’ mentality is just not fit for purpose in 21st Century security risk management,” Bluestone told the high level delegates.

“Is it not more helpful to look at your security profile in terms of actual and potential converged security risks rather than specific risks to a single asset, person, process, department, company or business application?”

Prevention of future attacks

Earlier in December, Bluestone again contributed to the counter-terrorism debate by chairing the first day of a two-day conference in London on the subject.

Among other things, the Counter-Terrorism Conference 2010 examined the use of the latest technology, the protection of critical infrastructure and public places and the prevention of future attacks.

The list of speakers included senior individuals from ACPO, the National Counter-Terrorism Security Office, the British Transport Police and Transport for London.

Bluestone’s thorough knowledge of counter-terrorism has been built up by dint of working in both the military and police arenas within the United Kingdom as well as overseas regions (including the Middle East).

At Corps Security, he advises clients in both the public and private sectors on appropriate measures to put in place to counter these and other threats.

Peter Webster, the newly-appointed chief executive at Corps Security, said: “It can be a real struggle for security managers to keep up to speed on Best Practice in countering terrorism. The leadership position that Mike is playing in this area ensures that Corps Security’s clients stay on top of the latest and best thinking available.”
