‘Eyelid’ bridge opens up to CCTV

The GB pound 22 million footbridge and cycleway linking Gateshead with Newcastle is scheduled to open this summer, and has been designed by architect Wilkinson Eyre to mimic the opening and closing of a giant ‘eyelid’. The bridge uses a ‘world-first’ tilting mechanism, turning on pivots on both sides of the river to open.
The White Group will supply and install a video-monitored CCTV system with three fully-functional infrared cameras boasting multiplex control. The system will be used to monitor people crossing the bridge, as well as traffic on the waterway.
