The international security fog device standard is likely to be published within the next three months.
It will bear the number IEC 62642-8, and be called ‘Intrusion and Hold Up Device Systems – Part 8: Security Fog Device/Systems.
The IEC 62642 series is the international standards series for intrusion and hold up alarm systems and is the international equivalent of the European EN 50131 series.
EN50131-8 started life as a BSIA code of practice and was then developed into a British Standard before progressing to Europe where it was approved in 2009.
EN 50131-8:2009 is the European Standard covering security fog systems that are part of an intruder and hold-up alarm system. The purpose of a security fog system is to reduce visibility in a protected area by the use of a non-toxic fog in order to form a barrier between the criminal and the criminal’s intended target.
