Sabin outlines media skills for security managers

Whether it’s on video cam, the Internet or national television and radio, more and more of us are appearing in the media.

With that in mind, ‘You’re On!’ is an informative and readable new book written by Alec Sabin, who provides expert coaching for both business professionals and members of the general public on how to look good on TV and the Internet, and sound good on the radio.

Sabin has worked in radio and TV as a presenter, journalist and media trainer since 1984. A BBC World Service announcer for 14 years, today he’s in international demand to train journalists, corporate executives, MPs, doctors, advocates, academics and media students.

The aims of good presentation

Taking a wide-ranging approach, Sabin discusses the aims of good presentation, how interviews work and how mastery of your material is crucial. On the technical side, Sabin provides exercises to improve vocal quality and breathing, tips on controlling nerves and insights into how the technology of the TV and radio studio can work for you.

On top of that, there’s expert guidance on ad-libbing, podcasting and how to read pre-prepared scripts in terms of intonation, speed of delivery and style.

Essential reading for media dealings

Sabin began his professional life as an actor (his many credits including Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Doctor Who and stage appearances with The Royal Shakespeare Company). Sabin combines drama skills with media know-how to get the best from his trainees.

His book is essential reading for those involved in Internet and radio presentations and anyone who has to make a great first impression on any media platform.
