Welcome to the home of security

For 34 years IFSEC has provided security installers, manufacturers, distributors, IT integrators, end-users and consultants with a platform to keep up-to-date with the ever-changing developments of the global security industry. And this year is set to be bigger and better than ever.

Taking place from 21-24 May 2007 at the Birmingham NEC, IFSEC is the world’s largest annual security exhibition, and once again it aims to accurately reflect the needs of today’s security professionals by offering an array of innovative new attractions.

Visitors to IFSEC 2007 will be able to explore an extensive variety of the latest security innovations. Exhibitors include a comprehensive cross-section of over 700 leading security suppliers. A truly global event, the exhibition will also feature International Pavilions from Korea, Sweden, Italy and Taiwan.

An IP and Networked Solutions feature area has been created due to the demand from visitors to have a separate area in the show for these new technologies in the market. Solutions on display will include the latest command and control software, visualisation systems, DVR and NVR technology, IP cameras, network-based access control and intelligent video processing.

The area will cater for the needs of IT professionals, systems integrators, VARs and business managers looking to migrate voice, data, security and building management systems onto a single network. Exhibitors in the area include IBM, Seagate, NTL, Avnet, Risco and Complus Teltronic.

Another new feature for 2007 is an area dedicated to Police and Public Security. Featuring leading suppliers to the police and public security sectors, this area of the show will provide a platform from which to source new products and services. The Association of Police and Public Security Suppliers (APPSS), the not-for-profit UK trade association, will be lending its support to the development of the Police and Public Security area of IFSEC 2007, and will be on hand throughout the show to offer visitors advice on procurement issues.

Featured companies include Aurora Computer Services, Ministry Protection Services, Integrian Europe, Secured by Design, and ANT Telecom. Sectors covered will include head-cam technology, covert surveillance, crime prevention and community safety, x-ray scanners, and metal detectors, as well as drug and explosives detection dogs.

The Physical Security Village is an exciting new feature area for 2007, catering specifically for those involved in perimeter protection, locking systems, safes and other physical security measures.

Back this year is the CCTV Village, which provides security professionals with access to the latest products, technologies, support and advice from the leading manufacturers and suppliers. No other show covers the CCTV market as comprehensively as IFSEC, and exhibiting companies will include Panasonic, Dedicated Micros, Norbain, ADI/Gardiner, and Baxall.

A focal point for the alarms sector, the Intruder Alarms Village features the leading manufacturers and suppliers showcasing everything from alarm systems to control panels and detectors.

Following its successful launch at last year’s show, the Security Guarding Village will return to IFSEC under the new name ‘Security Guarding and Support Services’. This dedicated area has been planned with the full support of the SIA, BSIA, The Security Institute, ASIS International UK Chapter 208, and Skills for Security. It will represent the full range of people-based security and training solutions, including front of house, back office, patrolling, electronic, remote monitoring, covert and specialist services. Among the exhibitors are a number of industry leaders, including MITIE Security, G4S Security Services (UK), Legion Group Plc, Wilson James, VSG and AFC Group.

Apprentice security installers will have the opportunity to pit their skills against each other in return for fantastic prizes and industry acclaim at the IFSEC Apprentice Skills Challenge 2007. See the panel on this page for more information.

Educationally focused

IFSEC’s three themed seminar theatres will be at the heart of the event, giving visitors a chance to enhance their professional knowledge. This year, some of the sessions will be CPD accredited, meaning visitors can update their professional skills, knowledge and competence while at the exhibition. The three seminar theatres are aimed at different sectors of the industry.

The End User Seminar Theatre will focus on the latest issues and developments facing end-users from diverse industry sectors including retail, finance, transport and government.

The Installer Seminar Theatre will feature practical and educational sessions designed specifically for security installers, and the IP & Networked Security Seminar Theatre will cater for those security professionals interested in IP and networked solutions.

Industry celebration

The IFSEC Security Industry Innovation Awards will be presented during a glittering evening ceremony at the Metropole Hotel on the Birmingham NEC site. Held on Monday 22 May, the awards will acknowledge the people, products and technological advancements that have played a big part in shaping the security industry over the past year. The awards are judged by a panel of industry experts, including representatives from the BSIA, the General Defence Diversification Agency and the Home Office Scientific Development Branch.
