Delaying the spread of smoke and fire, properly fitted fire doors give building occupants extra time to evacuate when fire breaks out.
Sometimes a fire door can look perfectly up to the job to the untrained eye, yet be riven with problems that mean it gives way under the heat of a fire well before the 30 minutes minimum that fire doors should withstand have elapsed.
But the fire doors in this video, which were all in use in commercial and residential buildings, are pretty obviously deficient – you don’t need to be a a qualified fire risk assessor to see that. It’s pretty shocking to think the responsible persons thought they could be in any way acceptable.
