Axis-q1765-leThe Axis Q1765-LE is an external network camera featuring powerful 18x optical,12x digital zoom lens, HDTV 1080p technology with multiple, individually configurable H.264 and MPEG streams and Auto-Adjusting’ LED’s that give optimum low-light illumination.

Part of the professional Q range, the Q1765-LE is designed for challenging environments such as airports, train stations and streets and detail-hungry scenarios like casinos and immigration control.

The Q1765 provides detailed images for identification wherever required as well as overviews. The addition of Axis’ unique corridor format, which provides more detail in vertical scenes, makes it ideal in long street scenes and perimeter protection.

Analysis

First off, I’m an Axis-certified professional. I like Axis, they’re a good company to deal with and their products generally do what they say on the tin, as they say.

Nevertheless, we tested the Axis Q1765-LE rigorously, under varying conditions, from bright daylight to total darkness, putting it through its paces with high and low activity scenes.

In full daylight images were bright and vibrant with crisp edges. Under low to zero lighting conditions, the IR illumination displayed excellent coverage and sharp images.

The back-light compensation feature was tested in a brightly lit doorway to an extremely dark corridor. Again, image quality and detail was everything that could be expected.

To test the manufacturer’s claims regarding powerful zoom and high image quality we focused the camera onto a car park entrance and enabled the gatekeeper facility by applying trip lines to detect vehicular and pedestrian access.

The feature was both reliable and easy to use, providing clear visuals of both vehicles and people.

We also tried the Q1765-LE over a wireless network, accessing the camera on a tablet PC, using one of the many free downloadable apps. Again, it performed admirably with hardly any lag.

Also, the ability to select separate streams allowed correct resolution selection for both tablet PC and Smartphones.  I could go into more detail about the tests conducted, but let’s just say, no matter what we threw at the Axis Q1765-LE it performed faultlessly.

Verdict: 4.5 STARS

As with all Axis equipment I’ve encountered the Q1765-LE has not disappointed. The build quality is – as always – very good, the installation and set-up simple and straightforward, but with huge scope for adjustment to suit numerous applications and varying conditions.

The one bugbear we did have was the undocumented fact that the installation wizard, which caused some confusion when we first programmed the device, overwrites any settings manually entered into the camera.

However, this minor problem should only be encountered once, and I cannot stress enough how good the image quality of the Axis Q1765-LE is compared to many other high-end IP cameras on the market.

This view was endorsed recently when we installed the Axis Q1765-LE at one of our high profile customers’ premises for a surveillance application to which it was ideally suited. I’m happy to say it has, so far, exceeded the client’s expectations.  All in all, another solid Axis product.
