Many people outside the fire-safety industry could be forgiven for believing that any sturdy-looking door could do a decent job of preventing the spread of fire and smoke.
Watch the following video, however, and they’d be quickly disabused of this misconception.
Produced by the British Woodworking Federation it shows three doors – Door A glazed incorrectly, Door B installed and glazed correctly and Door C with an ordinary letter plate and no intumescent seals – being exposed to the intense heat of a real fire.
