At IFSEC International 2022 in May, Mike Reddington, CEO of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), spoke to us about some of the major initiatives the team has been working on over the past 12 months, and what’s on the horizon for the BSIA and wider security sector.

Mike has worked in the security industry for over 25 years, beginning his career in electronic engineering before moving into sales and marketing, rising into senior roles for a variety of organisations. Mike was appointed as Chief Executive of the Association in 2019. The BSIA is a trade association that represents more than 70% of UK companies operating in the professional security industry sector and is recognised as ‘the voice of the professional security industry’.

Mike is passionate about the industry with a commitment and drive to identify and develop standards, quality, best practice and professionalism within the security industry. He is also a board director of Skills for Security which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the BSIA and was named as one of IFSEC Global’s Top Influencers in Security in 2022.

In the interview here (or watch directly on Youtube), Mike explains how the BSIA has been working on several initiatives to support its members and the wider security sector, including cyber security guidance, while also touching on the key trends ahead for professionals. He also explains why the BSIA launched its Ethical Guide to Automatic Facial Recognition – technology that Mike believes needs to be considered carefully, but can have wide-ranging benefits to physical security processes.
