Industry Leaders Consider Key Trends at IFSEC International 2013

Final preparations for IFSEC and FIREX International 2013 are in full swing, with the event set to open on May 13 at the Birmingham NEC. Every year we see a key theme emerge as the show gets underway.

In past years this has been migration to IP security solutions, video analytics systems, or hybrid technologies.

We asked six industry figures from companies including Anixter, Sony, and Assa Abloy, what the key trends are likely to be at IFSEC International 2013, and here’s what they said.

“The feedback we have received from the industry is that the major focus in 2013 will be on education toward standards-based security infrastructure and the importance of interoperability of products, which results in more choices. Having more choices is a significant benefit for the industry, but it also provides a challenge because there are so many solution combinations to choose from. We are also seeing more and more security professionals adopting IP strategies, while network professionals are gaining greater appreciation of the specific needs and requirements of video surveillance systems.”

“With the financial climate still challenging, everyone is looking for ways to improve their business, such as increasing recurring revenue streams and reducing the maintenance and administration cost associated with this income. With the media focus on the 1 million under-25s currently unemployed in the UK, set against the huge success of campaigns such as 100 in 100 Apprentices that are aiming to reduce that number, apprenticeship opportunities are sure to be in the spotlight this year.”

“Just as IP and hybrid technologies have been the hot topics on visitors’ lips in previous years, we anticipate 2013 to be the year that High Definition (HD) takes centre stage as the new standard for the industry. We’re passionate about empowering our customers with the pinnacle of image quality, and HD solutions provide just that. The transition to HD surveillance will be a big turn for the market, but a natural one.”

“Even though we have seen IP for many years, we will be able to see IP in a much bigger scope in 2013. With the newer technologies that deliver the ease of use, as well as the high-definition image quality, IP is the inevitable trend that even the UK market with such a huge base of analogue installation wouldn’t be able to ignore.”

“In the access control market we expect to see a lot of news in the area of NFC solutions and cloud-based access control, but IFSEC often throws up some surprises, so let’s wait and see.”

“IFSEC International is undoubtedly more than a traditional CCTV show, covering IP and networks, CCTV and video surveillance, physical security, counterterror, intelligent buildings, intruder alarms, access control, biometrics, and much more. We believe the emerging theme in 2013 will be around the convergence, integration, and infrastructure behind these areas. As you walk around IFSEC International, you are struck by the thousands and thousands of cameras on show. D-Link undoubtedly has market-leading cameras, but the infrastructure behind the cameras is also fundamental to the success of a project; D-Link understands both.”
