Announced at the Security & Fire Excellence Awards at London Hilton on Park Lane, Max Elsey from Banham and Joe Harding from Elm West Electrical Company claimed the £1,000 cash prize. The pair had been trained at Banham’s Academy.

The prize for second place went to Bobby and Carlos Dhunnay from Telcam, last year’s joint winners, who were trained by Skills for Security.

Engineers of Tomorrow and the judges have also highly commended Joshua Guy and Joziah Ham from Security Electrical Services, who were both trained by Yeovil college.
The awards ceremony was the culmination of a process which began at IFSEC International 2016 in June, where more than 50 young engineers competed in a 90-minute installation challenge. Participants had to assess an installed intruder alarm system, identifying faults, re-commissioning the system and applying any security and safety measures as needed.
All overall heat winners and their employers were invited to the Security & Fire Excellence Awards. IFSEC Global recently interviewed one of the 2016 heat winners, Padraig Lennon, about the competition and what it’s done for his career.

Engineers of Tomorrow is part of Apprenticeships for Fire & Security, an initiative that places apprentices into careers in the security industry industry and supports their development. The scheme has already helped launch the careers of more than 3,000 young apprentices.
