Whitepaper: Enhancing security, resilience and efficiency across a range of industries

RTR Services: “We are the natural next step for many installation firms”

On its website, specialist door products supplier RTR Services says it ensures “installers have exactly what they need for a job, just when they need it.”

IFSEC Global spoke to Paul Watson, the Essex-based company’s sales and marketing director, to find out just how they go about achieving this.

The conversation touches on the company’s background, customer base, how it works with installers and engineers and Watson’s analysis of the market’s recent evolution.

IG: What kind of customers do you serve?

PW: We serve automatic door installers, security installers and service companies across the UK. Our expert technical team is on hand to offer advice and guidance for all new and existing customers, and for security engineers new to the automatic door market, we offer comprehensive on-site training too.

We can help security installers build on the skillsets, qualifications and experience they already possess, making automatic door installation a straightforward and potentially lucrative addition to the services they can offer their customers. With automatic access systems playing such an important role in many security applications, we feel this is a natural next step for many installation firms.

PW: How does your relationship with installers work? What are the benefits of working with you?

All our products are underpinned with full technical support and training so installers can be secure in the knowledge that should they need any questions answered or back up we are only a phone call away. Full product training can be provided and we guide them through the steps needed for a successful installation that complies with best practice standards.

We can even come to their premises – so their valuable technicians spend as little time away from the day job as possible.

We’re also active within the Automatic Door Suppliers Association and have representation on British and European standards committees, which places us in an ideal position to advise on standards and legislation.

IG: What is the most interesting thing going on in your industry in your view and why?

PW: The pace of technological change is fast and one area where this is very evident is machine to machine (M2M) communication through the GSM network. RTR Services has its own in-house development resource so we are constantly ensuring our customers have access to innovative products that are designed and manufactured in the UK. Our iContact product enables communication via the web to automatic door drives for remote diagnostics and efficiency monitoring.

Similar technology is used in our Web Tag access control reader, which allows standalone remote programming of codes and cards with an audit trail built in. No interfaces to your customer’s network are required.
