Guidance given on fire doors for the health sector

Chiltern International Fire (CIF) has published a free guide designed to assist manufacturers, facilities managers and specifiers understand fire safety in the health sector.

Fire Doors for the Health Sector has been written to give an overview of the issues to address including testing, specification, maintenance and repair. A free PDF can be downloaded here.

CIF, alongside sister company BM TRADA Certification, is also offering seminars specifically geared towards the health sector. ‘On the road’ tour Fire Doors for the Health Sector Explained will include background to regulatory requirements, including the role of fire doors in progressive horizontal evacuation and the effect of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. Senior consultant at CIF, Peter Barker, said: “Through working closely with health sector professionals, CIF has identified ‘a number of fire safety challenges specific to hospitals and nursing homes.

“Patients present a wide range of dependencies, so it is critical that doorsets within hospital environments serve their purpose with respect to fire resistance and compartmentation to allow for phased evacuation.”
