Lab Revamp Means Exova Warringtonfire can Offer “a More Comprehensive Service”

A major overhaul at Exova Warringtonfire’s testing facilities in Gent has boosted both capacity and capabilities.

The fire-safety testing and consultancy provider has invested in new equipment for use in testing large partitions, screens, doors, floor and ceiling assemblies and long-loaded structural beams.

A new combination furnace, meanwhile, can run tests in both the vertical and horizontal plane with a high level of computer control. The frame can bear weights up to a total of 25 tonnes.

Anticipating the effects of European interpolation rules, which permit a broader field of application if elements are tested to larger dimensions, Exova also invested in more space for specimens.

The newly renovated lab can now test two ducts simultaneously to EN 1366-1 and BS 476: Part 24:1987 test standards, with a variety of combinations using vertical and horizontal specimens, either individually or together.

“We are committed to the provision of technically demanding services to our customers and this investment significantly increases the testing capabilities of the laboratory,” says Rob Veitch, divisional managing director at Exova Warringtonfire.

“With increased capacity we can be more flexible and offer a more comprehensive service, while maintaining the high quality and on time delivery our customers expect.”
