NEC and Andhra Pradesh Government Sign MoU to Transform Tirupati into a Safe City

nec - NEC and Andhra Pradesh Government Signs MoU to Transform Tirupati into a Safe City

The Andhra Pradesh government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Japanese IT and networking solutions provider, NEC, and Mizuho Bank Limited in a recent bilateral meeting in Japan.

The MoU was signed during the visit of AP Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, who was in Japan for the second time in three months as part the state’s strategic plan to develop stronger ties with Japanese technology companies.

One of the MoU projects is developing the temple town, Tirupati, into a safe city. This will be done by creating a common platform under which all technology components can be seamlessly integrated, with feeds directed into the central city operations centre.

Setting up a city surveillance system is also part of the MoU, which includes surveillance cameras, facial recognition solution and behaviour detection – all of which fall under the domain of video analytics.  Another area of collaboration is in developing a smart transport management system with automated number plate recognition, automatic vehicle tracking and automatic fare collection.

NEC has also proposed to work with the state government to develop a highly advanced, smart policing mechanism. This would have capabilities such as automated fingerprint identification system, facial recognition-based forensic and dial 100 platform. The prospect of establishing a centre of excellence for the safe city project also finds mention in the MoU, which will help with building capacity and providing technological expertise for R&D. On top of this, NEC will establish a development centre in the state.
