Siemens Security Showcase: Aliro, Vectix iX NVR and NVS with Monitor and Magic Mirror Detectors

Seen in the flesh by IFSEC Global live at Security Essen,Siemens unveiled its latest technologies – which you can see below.

Aliro

What is it? Aliro offers web-based access control for small and medium-sized businesses.

Why should you buy it? (According to Siemens) Siemens new access control product offers a “clearly structured system architecture with user-friendly software and intuitive mobile applications. With its flexible operating concept, the system can be managed from virtually any internet-connected device.”

Who would it suit? “With system costs proportionate to the number of doors to be protected, the architecture also improves cost transparency for users. This makes Aliro ideal for small to medium-sized businesses such as retail outlets, health centers and offices requiring a straightforward access control system that, as a distributed application, can manage up to 512 doors, 10,000 users and 100,000 access cards.”

Access points can be connected to the system via the IP network as well as via traditional bus connections (RS485). The access points are preconfigured for standard applications and can be used without any modification.

Aliro uses current-generation MiFare card readers from Siemens. They feature an integrated OLED display which shows messages and instructions based on user credentials, thus allowing direct interaction with the card holder. The user interface is available in eleven European languages and is compatible with all common reader technologies on the market. It also benefits from common features such as anti-passback, and supports local integration with intrusion detection systems.

Since the software used by Aliro is web-based, it needs to be installed on only one PC. The software automatically detects the access control units in the system and, if the installation is IP-based, assigns them network addresses. Configuring the software is quick and easy thanks to its intuitive user interface.

Authorised users can monitor and administer Aliro from anywhere using a standard web browser. Dedicated smartphone applications are also available. These mobile apps have a modern, intuitive user interface and support all major functions such as monitoring doors and alarm systems, unlocking doors, and managing users.

Why should installers be impressed? “Since each door has one access point, Aliro’s architecture is very straightforward,” claim Siemens. “This makes it easier for installers to design the system and prepare cost estimates. The access points can also be used as capture stations, eliminating the need for additional hardware. If needed, installers can easily customize the standard configuration to meet user-specific requirements.”

Vectis iX NVR and NVS

What is it? High-definition video recording solution for any application. The Vectis iX family of IP-based video recording solutions, just launched by Security Products from Siemens, includes self-contained network video recorders (NVR) as well as network video software (NVS) for server-based systems.

vectis

Why should you buy it? (According to Siemens) “Both are capable of recording full-HD images from up to 48 cameras simultaneously at 25 frames per second and support resolutions of up to 20 megapixel.”

All products use the latest H.264 video compression standard to ensure minimum network bandwidth usage. They are compatible with the MPEG4 and MJPEG standards for the convenience of users with existing cameras. In addition, they support the latest ONVIF Profile S standard, which allows them to be used not only with cameras from Siemens, but also with those from approximately 90 third-party manufacturers.

NVR models are available in 6, 16, 32 and 48 channel versions. They support an internal recording capacity of up to 24 TB (2 TB for the 6 channel model); additional recording capacity can be added externally. The NVS software solution is available in 8, 16, 32, 48 and 64 channel versions, with storage capacity determined by the configuration of the server.

Who would it suit? The Vectis iX products feature a modular design that allows them to be accurately matched to the user’s precise requirements. This makes them an ideal and cost-effective choice for use in IP-based CCTV applications of all types – from small retail installations to campus-wide surveillance systems.

The built-in VSS_SDK (software developer kit) interface allows Vectis iX systems to be integrated easily with the Siemens MM8000 access control and fire safety system. In addition to object detection, the on-board video analytics functionality also offers object removal. All models feature people counting, which is a major benefit particularly in retail and sports venue applications.

The Vectis iX products are ideally suited for use with the Siemens CMS (Central Management Software) package, which allows users to control and monitor multiple sites from any point on the network. CMS is also compatible with Siemens Sistore analog video recorders. This makes it easy to upgrade installations by initially operating Vectis iX products alongside existing Sistore devices. The migration to the new platform can then be completed step by step as funds become available.

magic mirrorMagic PDM-IXx12/T and PDM-IXx18/T

What is it? Dual motion detectors from Siemens reduce false alarms.

Why should you buy it? (According to Siemens) The new Magic PDM-IXx12/T and PDM-IXx18/T dual motion detectors offer reliable detection of intruders and high false alarm immunity. Their performance is based on an improved version of Siemens’ Matchtec algorithm, which combines passive infrared (PIR) and microwave (MW) channels to make extraordinarily accurate decisions on motion within their detection zone.

Intelligent processing routines in the enhanced Matchtec algorithm provide high detection reliability and false alarm immunity. The algorithm analyzes the relative strength of the IR and MW signals received from a moving object in order to make sound decisions. It is even possible to use multiple detectors in close proximity to each other, since the algorithm reduces interference between the MW modules. This increases flexibility in selecting the installation site.

The detectors have a future-proof design. Compared to earlier models, they can withstand higher MW radiation and field strengths. As a result, they comply with the new, significantly more demanding CE regulations that have come into force in June 2014.

Who does it suit? The detectors are suitable for both home and commercial environments and perform well even under harsh conditions, such as in rooms with rapid and extreme temperature fluctuations that can create false alarms.

The detectors feature a modern, slim design and can thus be installed unobtrusively even in rooms where an attractive appearance is important. The 12 m version can also be flush-mounted. The same bracket is used for mounting on walls and ceilings, which facilitates installation and storage.

What about installers? Developed by the Siemens Security Products business unit, the detectors offer a wide range of benefits for installers. Due to preconfigured end of line (EoL) resistors, they are ready for use with Siemens alarm panels such as SPC and Sintony. EoL modules make it easy to connect the detectors to alarm panels of other manufacturers without errors. Automatic walktest mode allows the detector to remain in this mode for three minutes after power-on, which saves time since all walktests can be carried out without opening the detector multiple times or changing DIP switches.
