mobile identity management

HID Global extends HID goID to help governments roll out mobile citizen IDs

Identity solutions developer HID Global has extended its HID goID mobile identity management solution for deploying and managing mobile citizen ID programmes.

From issuance to verification, HID goID provides an end-to-end solution backed by robust data security standards comparable with physical electronic ID (eID) programmes.

The issuance system harnesses:

  • HID Global’s Integrale modular software suite for managing physical and mobile IDs
  • Gateway for mobile ID provisioning, managed locally by governments or offered as a service
  • Software development kit (SDK) for developing the citizen app to meet local requirements

HID Global promises comprehensive support and training for creating and deploying the citizen app and verification solutions.

“Governments now have everything they need to move to a fully mobile society.” Jessica Westerouen van Meeteren, VP and MD, Citizen ID, HID Global

Off-the-shelf data structures mean governments can issue mobile passports that aid compliance with the digital travel credentials being developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). They can also issue mobile driver’s licences that will help them comply with ISO18013-5 specifications being developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

HID goID will also help governments transition from paper or electronic documents to mobile IDs, streamlining proof of identity issuance via over-the-air provisioning directly to citizens’ phones. Privacy is protected by end-to-end encryption and four layers of anti-fraud security mechanisms.

Citizens can control what verification data they share and with whom. Post-issuance technologies keep mobile IDs up to date and verification can be performed from distances up to 66 feet (20 metres).

“This is a major step in delivering the full value of our goID solution, as we extend its capabilities for provisioning, updating and revoking mobile IDs to include the full range of citizen ID programme functionality,” said Jessica Westerouen van Meeteren, VP and managing director for Citizen ID at HID Global.

“Governments now have everything they need to move to a fully mobile society, including support for integrating HID goID with existing issuance systems, developing a citizen app, and ensuring compliance with international standards for digital credentials.”

HID goID says issuing authorities can easily bring other government agencies and authorised private-sector entities into its ecosystem.
