Founded in 2003 by Michael Kaplinsky and Vladimir Berezin in Glendale, California, Arecont Vision claims to be the industry leader of megapixel IP video surveillance products, all of which are made in the USA.

Indeed it is exclusively focused on megapixel technology and Arecont Vision believes that of all the companies in the security market, it has contributed the most to the advancement of megapixel imaging for professional security development.

As well as having offices in North America, the company has a large presence in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Asia Pacific and Latin America.

The company says it is able to introduce new imaging technology years ahead of its rivals due to not having to wait for a new off-the-shelf ASIC to be available.

Market position

The company has grown strongly over the last 12 years, expanding its reach beyond US borders and by 2012 was reporting a 25.5% increase in revenues – the eighth year in a row of double digit sales growth. In 2014 the company announced a new deal to provide video surveillance cameras to SpaceX, a private company that designs, produces and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft for organisations such as NASA. The sophisticated megapixel cameras are now deployed on the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft which NASA uses to deliver supplies and science experiments to the International Space Station.

Arecont Vision operates a ‘Technology Partner Program’ which includes sales, development, and support contacts between the two companies in order to better engage with end user customers and integrators and better integrate new features and technology.

The company’s megapixel technology is making a big impact in helping to reduce the number of cameras needed while increasing video quality, coverage, and forensic recording.  Customers include hotels, casinos, theme and amusement parks, museums, restaurants and entertainment venues. Areas in which cameras are typically deployed include criminal behaviour and vandalism deterrence, facial recognition and identification, traffic monitoring and vehicle identification, parking monitoring and license plate recognition, and crowd and traffic flow monitoring.

The company has scooped a number of awards including Camera Manufacture Partner of the Year Award in 2011 and 2014, two government security awards in 2012 and 2015 and the Detektor International Award in 2014 for Best CCTV Product.
