Whitepaper: Multi-residential access management – The move to digital

Founded in Taiwan in 2000, Vivotek has established itself as a leading manufacturer in the network IP video surveillance industry.

The company was first listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 2006, since when it has steadily grown its annual R&D and channel budgets, establishing offices and subsidiaries in the US (California), Europe (Netherlands), India (Delhi), Middle East (Dubai), and, most recently, Latin America (Mexico).

VivoTek was ranked 19th in AS Magazine’s 2016 Security 50 rankings, with total revenue reported to be US$120.4m in 2015. This represented a 14.9 per cent growth in total revenue from 2014, when it reportedly generated a total of US$104.8m.

The company prides itself on having a strong research and development (R&D) capability. Over the years, its strong focus on R&D has resulted in the development of video codec technology, networking protocol, and multimedia system-on-chip (SoC) solutions. It also says it aspires to become the ‘Eye’ in the Internet of Things by drawing on its technological capabilities in image and audio.

In this video, Emilio Sanchez explain’s the 4-image camera – the MS 8391 –  that VivoTek showcased at IFSEC 2016:

VivoTek IP security products

Among its product portfolio, the company provides network cameras, video servers, video receivers, network video recorders, and central management software. Its focus is on developing products with more advanced functions, in order to broaden its product range from entry-level solutions to the high-end market.

Its most recent innovations include a number of solutions for vertical markets. A new IP surveillance system for train-based applications is designed to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. The shock, dust, water and temperature-resistant MD8563-EH is said to maintain stable and reliable video output during movement. For carriage interiors, the FE8181V, a 5-megapixel fisheye fixed dome network camera, delivers 360° surround view without blind spots, says VivoTek. The company also provides an industrial M12 Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch.

Suitable for urban surveillance, the SD9364-EH H.265 IR speed dome camera is said to be equipped with VAIR (Vari-Angle IR) technology, and features 250m IR illuminators for high image quality and illumination in challenging environments.

Catering for retail customers, VivoTek’s latest solutions range from people-counting cameras to point-of-sale integration and heat map technology for monitoring consumer behaviours.

The company has also recently introduced a vandal-resistant dome camera, the MS8392-EV, which upgrades its multiple-sensor product line. The new dome is said to provide an all-in-one solution, featuring four 3-megapixel CMOS sensors with 180-degree panoramic views. Equipped with a video alignment feature, the MS8392-EV allows users to optimise the image quality of each sensor and experience natural and continuous panoramic views, says the company.

For quick and easy design of video surveillance systems, VivoTek provides two design tools. The company’s IP camera families are also now available in the building information modelling software, Autodesk Revit.

VivoTek distributors and partners

VivoTek has worked with more than 180 distributors in over 100 countries to establish a comprehensive global network, while its Warriors Academy provides online education and training courses for its partners.

The company also offers the Solution Integration Alliance programme, which seeks to gather vendors from all sectors, incorporate VivoTek products into a variety of software and hardware platforms, and create surveillance solutions that meet the myriad needs of users. To ensure that partners are able to acquire resources that match their area of expertise, partners are assigned into the following categories based on specialisation: video management partner; application partner; hardware partner; and application development platform partner.
