The CCTV cameras installed by Pakistan on their side of the International Border were recently taken down after the Border Security Force (BSF) objected to their presence.

The said cameras were installed along the Pakistani side of the international border’s stretch which falls next to the Jaisalmer and Barmer district.

The possibility of CCTV cameras being used by Pakistan for snooping purposes was however denied by the BSF.

“It was just a security measure on their part to scan and prevent any movement from the frontier districts on our side into their side of the border,” BSF DIG Ravi Gandhi said.

“Reports that the devices were being used for snooping are unfounded and speculative at best.”

According to BSF, these CCTV cameras were setup last week by the BSF which were dismantled two-three days ago.

“The devices have been removed from the border near Jaisalmer,” Gandhi said.

The Chinese manufactured, solar-powered CCTV cameras were claimed by many media reports to be used by Pakistani Rangers for surveillance of the Indian side of the international border.
