DOUBLE AWARD

‘Canada’s First Lady of Security’ Bonnie Butlin wins Women of Influence Award and Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction

Information security expert Bonnie Butlin has won a Women of Influence Award courtesy of the Executive Women’s Forum (EWF) on Information Security, Risk Management & Privacy.

She has also just won the Carleton University Alumni Association’s AD Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction – Carleton’s highest alumni honour.

Canada’s First Lady of Security – as dubbed by SecurityInfoWatch.com and echoed by Sovereign Magazine – was presented with the EWF accolade, in the private solutions provider category, at the 16th annual EWF National Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Butlin is co-founder and executive director of the Security Partners’ Forum (SPF), co-founder of the Canadian Cybersecurity Alliance (CCA) and member of the World Economic Forum Expert Network for cybersecurity.

In 2017 she topped the international security management, education and thought leadership category of IFSEC Global’s Fire and Security Influencers.

In January we interviewed her about the then forthcoming GDPR EU privacy law, data protection regimes beyond the EU, the rise of security and cybersecurity up the global list of priorities, and the role of automation in data handling.

Other finalists for the Women of Influence Award included Tammy Moskites, MD of Security products at Accenture – one of IFSEC Global’s cybersecurity influencers 2018 – and Saryu Nayyar, CEO at Gurucul.

The AD Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction is named after Arnold Davidson Dunton, Canadian journalist, educator and public servant who served as president of Carleton University from 1958 to 1972. It recognises a distinguished graduate of Carleton University for outstanding achievements in, or contributions to, their particular field.

More than over 300 global thought leaders in information security, risk management and privacy gathered at the 16th annual EWF National Conference between 23-25 October 2018 to collaborate through round-table exercises, incident simulations, panel discussions and working groups.
