Aico has announced a series of fundraising challenges and events in support of its Charity of the Year for 2019, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Staff at the Oswestry-based firm will get involved in a 26-mile walk along the Jurassic Coast in Weymouth, The Whitchurch 10k, Oswestry 10k, Ludlow Cycling Festival, Shrewsbury Coracle Race and the Oswestry Midnight Ride and Race Night.
Aico, which designs and manufactures smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms, is sponsoring the Oswestry 10k and Midnight Ride in collaboration with various local businesses.
The company is also organising a coffee morning that will take place at the company’s new headquarters in November.
Alex Garmston, marketing executive for Aico, is taking part in the 26-mile walk and Oswestry 10k run.
“I have never walked over 10 miles or run a 10K, however I am looking forward to challenging myself and raising money and awareness for a charity which holds great significance for me,” he said. “Training is going to be vital and we are supporting each other as a team to get each other across the finishing line.”
Said Kate Thomas, Shropshire fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support: “I will be supporting everyone taking part in the challenges and events throughout the year and cannot wait to see them complete their challenges. This team will spend the next six to eight months training and therefore this has shown amazing commitment towards raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
