#SaferHomes4All

Resident safety campaign launched by Aico and Inside Housing

Fire systems manufacturer Aico has partnered with Inside Housing to launch a four-month campaign to raise awareness of, and promote best practice in safeguarding, resident safety.

Launched at at the Housing 2019 festival, the Resident Safety Campaign will promote best practice and provide practical advice around carbon monoxide awareness and regulation; gaining/permitting access to resident properties; and safety in supported living environments.

Aico took part in a panel Q&A session with residents at Housing 2019, an annual event held by the Chartered Institute of Housing in Manchester Central. “There is nothing more important for social landlords than providing people with a safe, secure home,” said Inside Housing editor Martin Hilditch, who chaired the panel debate.

“The new Resident Safety Campaign is designed to spread good practice in this area. We want to hear from tenants and landlords about what’s working best so we can provide helpful advice to other organisations. It’s vital that we keep looking for new ways to share learning and embed the very best safety culture across the housing sector.”

The initiative, the hashtag for which is #SaferHomes4All, includes a competition to find the most effective safety campaign run by housing associations. Inside Housing, a magazine dedicated to the social housing sector, “would like to hear about a safety campaign that identified and tackled issues surrounding residential safety, engaged residents and executed it with measured success.”

Three overall winners will have their project profiled in Inside Housing along with an interview with the team, an invitation to participate in a resident safety roundtable hosted by Inside Housing, and promotion across Inside Housing’s social media channels.

The closing date for entries is 6 September 2019 and the shortlist will be announced on 14 October 2019. Find out how to enter the competition.

Tina Mistry, regional specification manager for Aico, who participated in the Q&A session with residents, said: “Collectively our aim is to keep tenants and residents safe within their homes. Installation of fire and carbon monoxide alarms is part of that process. The installation is the easiest part but it’s equally important that we empower and engage tenants and residents in the process prior to work starting and after the work is completed.”
