AICO at FIREX 2019

Virtual reality alerts FIREX visitors to carbon monoxide dangers on Aico stand

As part of Aico’s new carbon monoxide campaign (‘Why would you risk it?’), Aico demonstrated the dangers of carbon monoxide with a new virtual reality experience at FIREX 2019.

Supported by VR experts Altro-Orbis, the supplier of carbon monoxide alarms offered visitors an immersive, 3D virtual environment in which to learn about the effect and symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and why installing the right CO detector could save lives.

The experience was central to Aico’s brand new stand, used in exhibitions throughout 2019. Designed to resemble a house, the stand allows visitors to see Aico alarms in situ as they would appear in customers’ homes. The design incorporates an escape route similar to a real-life property.

“The layout was perfect allowing us to interact with clients in different rooms from demonstrating the alarms to having meetings in the dining room and in the comfy sofa area,” said Tina Mistry, Aico’s regional specification manager.

“The virtual reality experience was well received and definitely raised awareness of the effects of carbon monoxide.”

Aico also contributed to the FIREX education programme. National technical manager Andrew Speake discussed key changes to BS 5839-6:2019 in the Expertise & Guidance Theatre.

Exhibiting at FIREX 2019 for the third year in a row, Aico welcomed visitors within London ExCeL across three days, 18-20 June.

Aico, an Ei Company, is a market leader in domestic fire and CO protection, meeting all UK standards with a wide range of sensor types, and offering expert technical support and advice on alarm selection, siting and installation as well as personalised specification documents and a dedicated installer training scheme, Expert Installer.

They also create bespoke specifications and solutions for Local Authorities and Housing Associations.
