Whitepaper: Multi-residential access management – The move to digital

Watch 17th century London burn and rise from the ashes along with a novel concept: insurance

To mark the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London ComparetheMarket.com have produced a video charting the city’s architectural rebirth.

And, re-enacting the Great Fire itself, a huge model of 17th century London was set alight on the river Thames on Sunday 4 September. Footage of that event can also be seen below.

The animated feature from ComparetheMarket.com shows the cost  – in both contemporary and modern terms – of rebuilding the landmarks and countless other buildings destroyed in the flames.

The Great Fire of London is credited with giving birth to the UK insurance industry and ComparetheMarket.com has conducted a study of 2,000 Brits about home insurance. This revealed, among other things, that a majority – 54% – of Brits wouldn’t know what to do in the event of a fire.

The sheer scale and human cost of the 1666 fire is also illustrated in infographic form here.

Watch this model of the 17th century London skyline burn as it floats on the river. You can see footage of the event along with interviews with the people involved in the project.
