London Zoo fire: Over 70 firefighters tackle blaze

72 firefighters were called to tackle the London Zoo fire which set a café alight.

London Fire Brigade were informed of the fire at 06.08 this morning and sent ten fire engines and 72 firefighters in response. By 09.16 the fire was under control.

According to a statement made by London Fire Brigade, approximately three quarters of the Zoo’s adventure café and shop, and half of the roof were set alight.

At this stage the cause of the fire is unknown.

The fire broke out in the Animal Adventure section of the zoo and spread to an adjacent shop.The only reported animal safety concern is for one missing aardvark.

Zoo staff were treated for smoke inhalation and shock onsite.

London Zoo is situated in Regent’s Park and is closed for the rest of the day.
