OPTEX revamps VX Shield (VXS) outdoor intrusion sensor

Sensor manufacturer OPTEX Europe has upgraded the VX Shield (VXS), its best-selling sensor.

The outdoor intrusion detector, which provides 12m x 90-degree detection coverage, is easier to install, according to the Maidenhead-based company.

New features

  • Housing has been redesigned
  • Rotation lock makes it easier to open/close the cover
  • Sensor adjustment components are now blue to for easier identification of parts that manipulate sensor detection area.
  • Spirit level
  • Automatic walk test mode starts upon closing the cover
  • Two ‘off the shelf’ colours – white body with white front cover and black body with white front cover – while front covers in black and silver also available to create multiple combinations

Four models

There are two PIR (passive infrared sensor) models – VXS_AM and VXS-RAM – and two dual-techs: VXS-DAM (wired) and VXS-RDAM (battery operated).

  • Algorithm integrates PIR and microwave detection for digital triple layer detection, so upper and lower PIR detection areas and microwave detection area must be simultaneously crossed to generate an alarm
  • High false alarm immunity in scenarios where sunlight is strong or ambient temperature high

All four models are equipped with digitally-enhanced signal recognition logic and super multidimensional analysis (SMDA). Analysing detection patterns and environmental information, SMDA improves immunity against temperature changes or moving trees and vegetation, reducing risk of false alarms.

And IR anti-masking detects objects covering or blocking the lens when monitoring the detector status.

OPTEX says

“The new look housing for the VX Shield has made our most popular sensor even more appealing,” said Jacques Vaarre, managing director of OPTEX, EMEA. “And customers now have the option of customising their sensors with either black, white or silver covers.

“With these design options and new installation features such as the walk test mode and level indicator, we now have the all-round sensor of choice for all residential or small commercial sites.”
