We are delighted to announce the judging panel for the 2020 edition of the IFSEC Global Influencers in Security and Fire 2020.
The awards are highly respected within the industry, and play a key part in recognising the talent and efforts of some of the leading individuals tirelessly developing the sector. You can find out the winners of the 2019 awards, here. Nominations for 2020 are also now LIVE for entries!
The judges, many of whom have been named as previous top influencers in the awards, all play prominent roles in the security and fire sectors across the globe. The panel consists of individuals from 11 different countries – many have additional years of overseas experience – with more details about the individuals selected below.
Lead Judge and co-founder of the prestigious awards, Grant Lecky, returns for 2020, commenting: “Last year we were pleased to see winners from countries that had not previously been featured on the IFSEC Top Influencers list and I expect that trend will continue for this year as well, so of course I am very excited to see who will be named to the 2020 list. As in previous years, our Judges are world-class professionals who are in an ideal position to judge those nominated to be the current influencers of today, as well as up-and-coming influencers within the security & fire disciplines.”
Grant himself featured among the IFSEC Global Influencers in Security and Fire in both 2014 and 2017, has featured on the Canadian Who’s Who, and is a recipient of the Bill Zalud Memorial Award for professional excellent/outstanding service in the security profession.

The criteria for installers is slightly different, being an individual – not a company – who has done some or all of the following:
Consistently provided exceptional customer service
Delivered a particular project, or many projects, to exceptionally high standards
Been an innovator (e.g. cutting average installation times/costs through adoption of new tech or change of process)
Played a pivotal role in the success of their company (whether that is growing revenues, diversification into new markets, growing market share or reputation for excellence)

Grant Lecky MSc. CSyP, F.ISRM, AARPI, CBCP is the co-founder of the Security Partners Forum (SPF), a network of security professionals that fosters greater communication and collaboration between the public, private and not-for-profit sectors across the globe.
In addition to the SPF, Grant, also currently serves as an Expert Network Member (Risk & Resilience) at the World Economic Forum, as member of the global advisory council of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (ISRM) and is a winner of numerous accolades including a spot on the Canadian Who’s Who and the Bill Zalud Award through the IFPO and Security Magazine.

Baroness Ruth Henig (UK)
Baroness Henig has been involved in policing and private security for 30 years, having chaired the Lancashire Police Authority for 16 years, and chairing the Association of Police Authorities for eight years. She was awarded the CBE for services to Policing in 2000. From 2007-2013 she chaired the Security Industry Authority, and during that time won several industry awards, including Infologue`s `Building the Future` Award, NSI`s gold medal and the ASC`s Imbert Prize.
Baroness Henig is currently Non-Executive chair of Securigroup, a security company based in Glasgow, President of the Security Institute and Chair of the Chartered Security Professionals Registration Authority. She has been a member of the House of Lords since 2004, a Deputy Speaker since 2015, and is currently a member of the Joint National Security Strategy Committee.
Mark Folmer, CPP, FSyI is a security leader, committed to shaping the future of the industry. With Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and The Security Institute (FSyI) certifications and more than two decades of security operations and volunteer experience, he is Vice President, Security Industry of TrackTik Software, where he helps organisations globally transform their security operations to unprecedented levels of intelligence and efficiency.
Mark is dedicated to advancing the industry through his long-time involvement with the ASIS International Standards and Guidelines process. Affiliated with various industry associations, Mark leads the volunteer efforts for ASIS in Canada and was recently named Chair of the ASIS Security Service Council, where he is focused on driving thought leadership on industry improvement, ESRM, technology and data use. A university instructor and industry speaker, Mark has been featured in industry publications globally and was named to IFSEC’s Global Influencers list in 2018 and 2019 for Security Thought Leadership.
Mari is the CEO and a founding board member for the Women’s Society of Cyberjutsu (WSC), one of the fastest growing non-profit cybersecurity communities, dedicated to bringing more women into the field of cyber. WSC provides its members with the resources and support required to enter and advance as a cyber security professional.
Mari began her cyber career with Accenture where she excelled as a Network Engineer. Mari is also the inaugural ISC2 Diversity Award winner for 2019. With over nine years of Information Technology experience, eight of which are in cyber security, her experience spans network design, risk assessments, vulnerability assessments, incident response and policy development across government and commercial industries. She holds a variety of technical and management certifications (CISSP, GIAC, CCNA, etc), as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Columbus State University and a Master of Science in Information Systems from Strayer University. Mari is currently a resident of Las Vegas working to secure the Gaming industry of the south west as a Sr. Security Architect. She regularly contributes content to security blogs and training companies across the country as well as an Adjunct Professor for UMUC.
Chris is a certified security professional with 30 years private and government sector experience. Chris spent 15 years in law enforcement and since a similar period as an independent security consultant and industry media commentator. Chris is widely published, including author of two books, multiple media websites and marketplace, online TV and hosts the Cyber Security Weekly Podcast.
Chuck Brooks is the Principal Market Growth Strategist for General Dynamics Mission Systems Cyber Systems. He is also Adjunct Faculty in the graduate Applied Intelligence Program and the Cybersecurity Program at Georgetown University. LinkedIn named Chuck as one of “The Top 5 Tech People to Follow on LinkedIn”. He was named by Thompson Reuters as a “Top 50 Global Influencer in Risk, Compliance,” and by IFSEC as the “#2 Global Cybersecurity Influencer” in 2018. He is also a Contributor to FORBES, Cybersecurity Expert for “The Network” at the Washington Post, and a Visiting Editor at Homeland Security Today.
In government, Chuck has received two senior Presidential appointments. Under President George W. Bush Chuck was appointed to The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as the first Legislative Director of The Science & Technology Directorate at the Department of Homeland Security. He also was appointed as Special Assistant to the Director of Voice of America under President Reagan. Chuck has 57,000 LinkedIn followers and has published more than 180 articles and blogs on cyber security, homeland security and technology issues.
Jason Cherrington is Group Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Optic Security Group, “the largest independent and most technically advanced integrator” of converged security solutions in Australia and New Zealand.
Jason has achieved 25+ years international success in the Telco, IT, Publishing, Infosec and Converged Security industries, including as Global Service Director at Skype, Executive General Manager at BT, Chief Digital Officer and Commercial Director at CEWE Stiftung & Co. KGaA, and Group Commercial Director at Smiths News.

Today Dr. Nacira is CISO (Chief Information Security Officer) – teacher at the cybersecurity master and member of the council of the mathematics and cybersecurity department at the Paris Descartes university.
Elected in the Top 100 Most Influential Personality in the Field of Cybersecurity in France, #SaferInternet4EU Ambassadors, Dr. Nacira has held several positions in the field of cyber security in the past, alongside publishing a book with CEFCYS in January 2020, entitled: ‘I don’t wear a hoodie, but I do work in cybersecurity’ : a guide to roles, training and career opportunities in cybersecurity.
Rick Mounfield MSc, CSyP, FSyI completed his career in the Royal Military Police in 2011 as a Regimental Sergeant Major. His career spanned 23 years, an accumulated eight years of which were served on operational tours. He was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal by HM the Queen in 2011 for his outstanding career, including Close Protection services to British Ambassadors and Senior Generals in hostile countries.
When he retired, he was licensed by the SIA as a CP Operator. Between 2011 and 2017, Rick worked exclusively in the UHNW security arena, employing Close Protection Officers and security specialists in roles across the world. He is one of only 140 Security Specialists in the UK to be awarded the highest award of Chartered Security Professional (CSyP) and has an MSc in Security Management from Loughborough Uni.
Rick is now Chief Executive at the Security Institute, where he drives its strategic aims of the, one of which is to encourage professional development and continuous learning.
Roberto is a self-declared system thinking and game theorist, with over 20 years’ experience in consulting and education in Strategy, Security and Intelligence Analysis in the UK, Spain and Italy. Currently, he is a Fellow as well as a member of the Global Advisory Council of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management, Strategy Director of StepUp Stop Slavery, and freelance consultant. Among other works he has contributed, together with Giovanni Manunta, to the Handbook of Security with the concluding chapter on Theorising About Security.
Shira Rubinoff is a recognised cyber security executive, advisor, speaker & influencer, who has built two cyber security product companies, and led multiple women-in-technology efforts. She currently serves as President of social-media-security firm, SecureMySocial & President of NYC Tech Incubator, Prime Tech Partners, as well as on the Boards of the Executive Women’s Forum for Information Security, Leading Women in Technology, blockchain company; Mainframe, and AI company; TrueConnect.
An expert in the Human Factors of information technology and security, Ms. Rubinoff was named one of New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business, was named by CSO Magazine as a Woman of Influence, and was honoured by CSO and the EWF with the “One to Watch” award, and most recently was honored as an “Outstanding Woman in Infosec” by the CyberHub Summit. She has also been calculated by analysts to be the top female cyber security influencer globally on social media.
Before SecureMySocial, Ms. Rubinoff founded and served for a decade as President of online authentication vendor, Green Armor Solutions. Ms. Rubinoff is also the author of the cyber security book, Cyber Minds.
Ms. Whittle is responsible for the GC Security Policy Suite, including providing strategic policy direction to departments to continue to strengthen and mature security management and related performance practices. She delivers the Government of Canada vision of Security in support of service modernisation and trusted programme and service delivery.
Rita chairs GC Security governance committees which include the Government of Canada Security and Readiness Committee, and the DG Enterprise Security Control Committee. As well as this, she supports the ADM Security committee (co-chaired by TBS and PCO) and convenes an annual GC Security Summit with Public Safety Canada and PCO. Ms. Whittle joined Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) in December, 2011. Prior to TBS, Ms. Whittle occupied the position of Director General, Internal Integrity and Security, at Employment and Social Development (ESDC).
Benjamin is a recognised expert in central banking and international development banking security, an authority on African security dynamics with more than 30 years’ experience. Currently, he is a Chief Security Officer with the African Development Bank at its Headquarters in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, with Continental security leadership responsibilities.
Previously Benjamin has worked for three different central banks as Chief Security Officer: Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, Bank of Botswana and Central Bank of Lesotho where he led grounding breaking physical security projects. He has an MSc in Security Management, MA International Security and an Executive MBA. Professionally, he is a Board-Certified Protection Professional, CPP, Chartered Security Professional, CSyP; and a Fellow in Security Leadership, FSyL.
Biljana Cerin is the CEO of Ostendo Consulting, founded 2011 in London, U.K. and Zagreb, Croatia. The company provides information security and risk management, IT governance, and compliance related consulting services for clients in a number of high priority sectors.
Since 2018., Biljana serves as a Member of the Board of Directors at (ISC)2, the world’s largest organisation of information system security professionals, where she chairs the Ethics Committee and co-chairs the Nominations Committee. Biljana is President of Cyber Security Affiliation at Croatian Chamber of Economy, where she actively takes initiatives towards strengthening the cyber security industry in Croatia through enabling closer cooperation between government, business and academia representatives in the field.
In 2019. Biljana was elected among the Top 30 Women in Business in Croatia. She is also working on engaging young professionals, especially women, in the information security field and serves as a President of the (ISC)² Croatia Chapter.
Michael Gips, CPP, CSyP, CAE, is the principal of Global Insights in Professional Security, LLC, a firm that helps security firms assert thought leadership and heighten brand awareness in a crowded marketplace. Michael was previously Chief Global Knowledge Officer at ASIS International, serving as an internal subject matter expert and researcher, public speaker, chief of Editorial Services, member of the ASIS Foundation Research Committee, and key resource to the CSO Center for Leadership & Development. Before that, as an editor for ASIS’s Security Management magazine, he wrote hundreds of articles and columns on virtually every topic in security. In his early career he was an attorney who worked on death-penalty cases.
Mike has a B.A. in history and Spanish from Tufts University, and a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School. In the security arena, he holds ASIS’s Certified Protection Professional designation and the Chartered Security Professional designation, bestowed by the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals. He also has multiple certificates in security and business subjects.
Roy has been in the security industry for nearly 50 years, since starting in 1972 as an apprentice alarm engineer for Chubb Alarms, working his way up through sales for installation companies, manufacturer and distribution. He has worked on/sold Intruder alarms, CCTV and Access control systems and is well connected within the electronic side of the security business within the UK.
Roy is now the Managing Director and co-owner of Professional Security Magazine, which has been established since 1990. It serves the UK security market for both end users and installers alike. He also runs nine events during the course of the year, (Security TWENTY) which take place all over the UK – one of these being the Women in Security awards. He works with most, and is a member of many of the security associations, such as the Security Institute and Worshipful Company of Security Professionals.
With more than 25 years of security industry senior management experience, Kim Loy has achieved significant success within a wide variety of global enterprises. As Chief Product Officer for ACRE, Kim is responsible for oversight of the company’s brands, strategic product planning and cyber security strategy.
Prior to her role at ACRE, she served as the Director of Technology and Communications for Vanderbilt International in Dublin, Ireland, where she managed the global R&D, Product Management and Marketing Communications teams and developed technology partnerships to increase the company’s reach. Loy has held senior positions with GE Security, G4S, Xtralis and Pelco by Schneider Electric. All of these global positions have provided Loy with extensive international experience. Kim also serves on the Security Industry Association Board of Directors.
Douglas Mapuranga is the current President of ISACA Harare Chapter and also the current Chairman of Project Management Zimbabwe, Harare Chapter. Douglas is a seasoned Chief Information Officer with a demonstrated history of working in diverse industries. He is a distinguished presenter on cyber security and has written several opinion articles for top publications. He is proficient in Project Management, Systems Auditing, IT Risk Management, Cybersecurity, Telecoms Systems Management, and IT Governance.
Douglas is currently employed at the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe. He holds an MSc in Information Systems Management from the University of Roehampton (UK), a BCom in Business Informatics (UNISA), an Advanced Diplomas in Information Processing, Telecommunications and Radio Systems, and various other business qualifications.
Dr. Lopa Mudraa Basuu, is the Global Head – Cyber Security Risk Governance & Compliance, Nissan Motor Corporation. A cyber security veteran with plethora of experience in IT & Information Security, Data Protection, Technology Risk Management & Governance with a proven performance record of delivering value as business enabler.
Dr. Lopa holds a Doctor of Excellence in Cyber Risk Management. She is a Certified Global CIO from ISB Hyderabad. She also has the required industry certifications – C|CISO, CRISC, CISM, CHFI, amongst many others. Global industry leaders such as OCWEN (Global Director IT Risk Operations), SLK Global (AVP & Head Enterprise Security & Risk Governance), MetLife (Manager IT Security & Quality) and Infosys (Consultant Security Audit & Architecture) are amongst the organisations to which she has contributed in her career till now.
Her contributions to security, privacy and risk fraternity has been recognized by industry through – Top Women in Cyber Security in INDIA 2019; CSO 100 Honoree 2019 & 2018; CISO MAG Award – InfoSec Leader Of The Year 2019; CIO Leader of The Year 2019; CISO Of The Year 2019; Big CIO 50 Innovators Award 2019; and many others.
After having obtained a Masters degree in Ancient History and Masters degree in Information & Communication Technology at the ULB, Phédra Clouner started her carrier at the Belgian Ministry of Finance as IT Project Manager. Specialising in document management, enterprise content management and records management, she became responsible for information management, business intelligence and web content management at the Ministry of Justice.
Alongside this, she is Chair of document@work, the Belgo-Luxembourg-association for Enterprise Content Management, and founds and manages the Belgian antenna of FEDISA international (the federation for information lifecycle management, storage and archiving). She also took up a CISO function for the Ministry of Justice and evolves further in that area. She has been Deputy Director of the Center for Cyber security Belgium, since its creation a little over four years ago.
Phédra is a Founding Member of the Women4Cyber Initiative, launched by the European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO). She’s also member of the Advisory board of The FIC (Forum International de la Cybersécurité).
Pablo is a specialist in corporate security with more than 20 years of experience in the field. He has been a constant promoter of integrated security within the organisations in which he has worked, and has created and led many working groups in this direction, always with the focus on mitigating corporate risks. His efforts have both increased operational efficiency and allowed the organizations he assisted to operate at an acceptable and adequate risk level.
Pablo is currently Security Advisor, and also CEO of Facewatch Argentina. He’s also associate to Don Hubbard and Associates consulting firm in the US, for Latin American affairs. His academic achievements include a Bachelor of Computer Science and Masters in Business Administration. Pablo spent 12 years within the international accounting and consulting firm PwC, where he performed in various roles and responsibilities, the last being the CSO (Chief Security Officer) for Latin America, with responsibility over 17 countries. There he gained extensive experience in building interdisciplinary security teams integrating all the security functions of the organization, including Information Security, Business Continuity, People & Asset Security, and Crisis Management.
Pablo is also co-founder and currently Vice President of the Argentine Chamber of Integrated Security Professionals (CAPSI), where he continues his efforts toward the evolution of security as a professional activity. Within the academic sector, Pablo is director and professor in different post-degree programs at Universidad del Centro Educativo Latinoamiricano (UCEL), and Universidad Abierta Interamericana (UAI), and he was also professor in the post-degree program in Information Security at the University of El Salvador (USAL).
Cris Francis is the Head of Electronics, Security and Investigation Services at BRE, a UK-based organisation that operates internationally. It has been raising the standards of the built environment since 1921, through research and development with leading experts. Cris has extensive knowledge in the physical security market, specialising in products requiring testing and certification and also has a knowledge of fire protection products, having worked for major manufacturers in both areas.
Dennis Davis (UK)
Dennis is currently Executive Officer for the Fire Sector Federation and an international independent adviser on fire and civil protection matters. Within the Federation, Dennis’s technical roles involve leading competency work, fire research and statistics and international affairs.
His background is that of an operational firefighter who served through the ranks to Chief Fire Officer for Cheshire and became HM Chief Inspector of Fire Services for Scotland. Previous professional contributions include presidency of the Institution of Fire Engineers and UK Chief Fire Officers. Currently, he is a Special Adviser to the International Fire and Rescue Services Association.
Ian is the CEO of the Fire Industry Association in the UK, having joined in September 2015. Prior to this, Ian was the Managing Director of several companies operating in the fire and security industry – the most recent being Elmdene International and as a Vice President of Potter Signal.
Recently Chairman of the BSIA Export Council and member of the BSIA Operating Board, as well as member of several fire and security committees, he has a wealth of experience to bring. Having lived in Oman, Taiwan and UAE, Ian also brings strong international experience to support any export activities of the FIA and its members.
