Soaring Crime Prompts Installation of Surveillance Cameras in Goan Market

mapusa marketMapusa Municipal Council has taken the decision to install CCTV cameras in the Goan town’s local market owing to the rising number of crimes, in particular robbery.

The footage generated by the surveillance cameras in the Mapusa market will be monitored by the Mapusa police.

The decision was taken on a proposal sent for installing CCTV cameras in the market to Mapusa Municipal Council by the Mapusa police. The CCTV cameras will aid the police in ensuring better surveillance and security in market premises.

The MMC passed the resolution for installation of CCTV cameras and later a tender was floated which was awarded to a private enterprise.

The total cost of CCTV cameras to be installed at 14 strategic locations is estimated to be five lakh rupees.

The monitoring infrastructure of CCTV footage will be set up at the Mapusa police station. The MMC chairperson’s cabin will also have the screen display of all the installed CCTV cameras.
