The police stations which adopted the CCTNS for electronic FIR registration are located in the state of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, Telangana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Out of 14,324 police stations about 9,000 have already begun 100% FIR registration through the CCTNS.
The aforesaid facts were shared during a national seminar held to appraise the status of the project’s implementation and formulate a strategy to keep a check on the allocated time for rolling out the project. Director General of Prisons, National Informatics Centre and consulting companies have been assigned to the project and participated in the seminar.
The project’s implementation in Bihar and Rajasthan has hit a roadblock as vendors rescinded the contract, according to an official statement.
The foundation of the CCTNS project was laid after the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 by the then Home Minister P Chidambaram.
The national seminar participants have also suggested the project should be synced with the Aadhar and National Population Register, which would aid on-site investigation using handheld devices.
