Essentra Security Provides Expertise for Disabled Identification Card Scheme

Essentra Security supports introduction of Identification Card for Disabled-DID Card Sample-350Essentra Security has provided the technology for an ID card scheme that liberates disabled people from the need to carry documents to obtain concessions or benefits.

The concept behind the national Disabled Identification Card (DID) was the brainchild of Tanya Beaney, now the directory of Director at Disabled Identification (DID) Card Ltd, after observing the frustration aired by many disabled people over the issue on social networking sites.

Tanya’s idea struck a chord with those voting in the Virgin Media Pitch-to-Rich Competition, in which the scheme reached the 2015 semi final.

Impressed by the idea Essentra Security supplied a Magicard Rio Pro printer, software and ID card stock to kick-start the process of issuing cards to the disabled. The number of disabled people in UK stands at about 11 million.

The DID card is developed to work as a certified card for anyone registered under the blind disability category or when availing benefits from the DLA, PIP, AFIP and AA.

Several bodies such as the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), the Security Industry Authority and Trading Standards have already approved these cards.

Disabled individuals or their guardians can apply for a DID card by visiting the DID card website.
