HID Global has launched an ID card retransfer printer that halves the time it takes to print the first ID card and doubles overall throughput compared to many rival printers.
The HID FARGO HDP6600 HD printer and encoder, which is designed to save customers money and energy as well as time, is the sixth-generation FARGO retransfer printer.
The ‘trusted identity solutions’ provider says it has “redesigned the printer from the ground up” to accelerate high-volume, high-quality printing. In doing so it promises to lower the printing cost per card and boost energy efficiency.
It also says the new printer is easier to service, less expensive to operate and more flexible across a wider range of applications.
“The HID FARGO HDP6600 is not only breathtakingly fast and efficient, but represents a whole new way to think about retransfer printing.” Craig Sandness, VP and MD, secure issuance, HID Global
The breakthrough in throughput speeds was achieved by combining patent-pending iON ‘instant on’ technology with other advancements. This made possible simultaneous film printing and card retransfer.
Slashing the printing time of the first card to 60 seconds – an industry low – it cuts average annual wait times by up to 20 hours for printed and laminated cards and boosts overall throughput to up to 230 cards per hour, says the company.
This eliminates the need for continuous transfer roller heating, which improves energy efficiency. HID Global believes that thousands of dollars could be saved by using the printers on large projects.
“With the HID FARGO HDP6600 printer, HID Global has redefined retransfer technology innovation,” said Craig Sandness, VP and MD for secure issuance with HID Global. “We looked at this well-established product category with new eyes to deliver the features and capabilities that are in highest demand from government, enterprise and higher education customers.
“The HID FARGO HDP6600 is not only breathtakingly fast and efficient, but it represents a whole new way to think about retransfer printing.”
In contrast to products that use conventional dithering techniques, the latest FARGO printer’s 600 DPI resolution and precision colour panel registration achieves sharper text, crisper barcode edges and more vibrant colors, claims HID Global.
Multi-tasking architecture is supported by a full gigabyte of memory and makes card path and film and ribbon drawer assemblies easier to access and service. The HDP6600 is field-upgradable with optional modules including a card flattener, dual-side flipper, and choice of magnetic, contact and contactless encoders plus a programmer option for encoding physical access control system (PACS) data.
